Table for Chouyou (the Chrysanthemum Festival: Drink ’Japanese sake with chrysanthemum petals’
Waka poetry was performed as one of the Imperial Court ceremonies, as celebrating Choyou (the Chrysanthemum
Festival) in Heian period. Based on the idea, I brought anthology of poetry, the Manyoshu (Collection of Ten Thousand
Leaves) and I found a good one from the collection about the drinking. ‘Shirushi naki Mono wo omowazuwa hitotsugino
nigoreru sake wo nomubeku arashi (authored by Otomo no Tabito). This means that let us drink rather than concerning
every little thing. I agree with it! Chyisanthemum sake was created by soused chrysanthemum in Japanese sake,
and then was put its petals in when you drink. It was hard for me and mother to drink just a cup of sake. We needed
it more. This tendency could be my mother’s DNA.
On the Table Today, a lot of Japanese sake with chrysanthemum petals’ not only a cup of sake.
