Table for Otsukimi (looking up at the moon): Drink IMO SHOCHU ‘HEKIKU’
IMO SHOCHU, distilled alcohol made most commonly from sweet potato, is mainly produced in Kagoshima. On the
table for Otsukimi (October 3, 2011), IMO SHOCHU ‘HEKIKU’ was drunk. I have heard that it is the same quality as
‘MAO’ and ‘MORIZO’, which are difficult to obtain. I usually like to drink SHOCHU with hot water, however, I decided
to follow the way to drink that ‘HEKIKU’ on the rocks or straight is a crowd pleaser. Its alcohol content of 37% is fairly
high because of no adding water. As the result, it is very fresh and its taste is sweet and deep with strong aroma. As I
also have heard that once you drink this ‘HEKIKU’, you would become a fan. I agree to it. SHOCHU is good for a long
autumn night in this coming season.
On the Table Today, sip on straight up ‘HEKIKU’.
